EDMC’s Senior Vice President of External Affairs Tony Guida recently co-authored an in-depth look at Gainful Employment for the Chicago Law Review. He served as lead author on an article entitled Higher Education’s Gainful Employment and 90/10 Rules: Unintended “Scarlet Letters” for Minority, Low-Income, and Other At-Risk Students, published as part of a University of Chicago Law Review Symposium: Understanding Education in the United States, 79 U. Chi. L. Rev. 131 (2012).

Military families deserve access to career colleges

Stars and Stripes, a multimedia news organization providing independent news and information to the U.S. military community, recently published this guest column by Robert Jackson, executive director of Washington-based Military Families United. Military Families United is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to “honor the fallen, support those who fight, and serve their families.

In the column Mr. Jackson discusses the partnership between Military Families United and The Art Institutes to provide a scholarship program specifically for military spouses to augment their earned benefits.

The Charleston Regional Business Journal, a biweekly newspaper serving senior level, business decision-makers in the Charleston, ran a story looking at The Art Institute of Charleston’s partnership with a military service member nonprofit organization to offer four scholarships for the spouses of military service members. The Art Institute of Charleston is a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta.

The school system now appears on the 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools honoring the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students.

In a letter to the editor, Education Management Corporation's Sr. Vice President of External Affairs, Tony Guida, responded to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review story. Mr. Guida emphasized the company's commitment to the city and state to create 600 jobs over three years and invest $27.9 million in private funds to expand operations and construct a new data center in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Since July 1, 2009, EDMC has created 461 new jobs and invested $41 million in private funds.
